Maturity Matters for Bureau of Prisons

The Maturity Track for pre-release inmates deals specifically with the mental and emotional development of the participant.

The objective is clear, reenter society and prosper (with no return).  Create a productive lifestyle for self and others.

In all the research on recidivism there are great debates as to what really works.  It appears as though the major focus while incarcerated is job-readiness.  The message seems to be “get a job” and everything will be OK.

On the other hand, we study trend data that clearly indicates change is occurring at a faster pace than ever before in history.  Technology gaps, generational gaps, workforce gaps, performance gaps, communication gaps…the gaps list continues to grow while the “gaps” get larger.  This “gap-check” brings a frightening awareness to all of us who are NOT incarcerated.

The transitional tools become the greatest assets as the inmate’s progress through the Maturity Matters program.

     1. Defining core values: Which side of the law you wish to be on

     2. Building Self-Esteem: Learning to deal with past, present and future

     3. Monitoring critical data: What are you thinking, how do you feel, can you control

     4. Awareness to Free-will: Accepting personal responsibility and accountability

     5. Understanding immaturity: How immature thoughts and emotions distract

At the time of this posting, a pilot program is being organized at the Pollack Federal Bureau of Prisons.  The twelve week course begins on Friday, January 30th, 2009.  You are encouraged to contact for the most recent available progress reports.  Whene contacting, simply reference BOP-Pollock.
