We long to belong.
For many, the image of family fails. The dysfunctions list is long and reasons why are sometimes hard to believe. The dysfunctions of the family (personal life) drastically affect the attitudes towards self and the ability to relate with others.
Truth is revealed in the statement, “conflict with a loved one distracts all day.”
Statistics show that most of our youth greet each day in “toxic” homes. Most have never really been in a loving, wholesome family. The current example we set for the younger generation is broken models, shattered relationships, and hurting hearts.
This sense of family togetherness allows us to create authentic relationships. The "idealistic" picture of the family is to accept the child, support the child, and grow the child through maturity. This relational-foundation becomes the corner stone to maturing.
With out this relational-foundation the learned behavior is self (survival). Maturity is hindered and character development is flawed. The diagram below illustrates the maturity process
